Our Story

Our business started out with our main groomer, Krysten Short, starting her grooming career in 2004.  Learning online and through apprenticeships with other, established groomers, as well as participating in continuing education courses throughout her grooming career, Krysten has become proficient in her field and loves making her clients happy, feeling their best and looking fabulous every day.

Krysten’s Mother, Lori Gunter became the backbone, organizer and staple to make their grooming business take off and become successful.  They started their mobile grooming salon, known as Spaws for Paws in Petawawa, Ontario.  When Krysten married Dennis Short he quickly became the team member to keep everything running smoothly and working correctly. 

When Krysten and Dennis decided to start their family, Spaws for Paws moved to a stationary salon and quickly became the largest grooming salon in the Ottawa Valley.  Their daughter, Taylor Short is often seen “working with Mom, Dad or Grandma” to make sure the pups have their treat bags ready for when they are picked up after their Spa Day.

Dennis is a 23 year Veteran with our Canadian Armed Forces, where he worked as a Biomedical Engineering Technologist, responsible for keeping our hospital equipment working, organized and running smoothly.  Being responsible for repairing and maintenance of medical equipment for our Armed forces equipped Dennis with the knowledge and experience to diagnose problems, repair and maintain all of our grooming equipment over the years with ease.

In 2020 Dennis was posted to CFB Halifax and is now retiring in amazing Nova Scotia.  The Spaws for Paws salon in Ontario was sold to one of our past employees.  This is when Clippity Do Dog in Lake Echo, Nova Scotia was formed.  Lori and Krysten are still the faces you see every day and Dennis is still keeping us running smoothly!

Clippity Do Dog Pet Grooming Salon is a successful salon and we adore all of our clients (and their owners of course).   We opened our Retail Store beside our grooming salon to offer pet supplies, food and home grooming tools and supplies to our awesome clients. 

When we moved to Nova Scotia and opened our grooming salon here, we discovered that it was difficult to find any repair shops for our grooming equipment, or a local place to have our shears and blades sharpened, or even a local place in Atlantic Canada anywhere to purchase professional grooming equipment. 

We have decided that we want to help our industry and fill that gap that we have in Atlantic Canada!  We now have for sale in our Clippity Do Dog Retail Store; Professional Grooming Electric Tables, Electric Bathing Tubs, Dryers, Clippers, Blades, Shears and any other equipment that we have used or have had requests to carry. 

We welcome anyone to come to our Store Front to see, touch, demo and purchase on the spot any of the items we carry.  We also thoroughly enjoy chatting with our fellow groomers, as well as our clients who want to groom their precious pooches at home!

We have traveled to Iowa for training with the Edge Pro to learn how to sharpen.  We use the Treyco 3000 Clipper Blade Sharpener and the EZ-Vex True Convex Sharpening Machine and are very happy with how well these machines work for us.   We spent the first 6 months sharpening everything we could get our hands on, testing everything ourselves and fine-tuning our sharpening skills.  Now this is a service we proudly offer to our clients.

We have partnered with and become the recognized and authorized repair, warranty and sales center for Wahl Canada, Heininger, K9 Dryers, Metro Vac, Bonika Shears and Aeolus.  We are knowledgeable and have experience using, maintaining and repairing all of the same equipment that our fellow professional groomers use every day.  This gives us the advantage to know what some of your needs may be and how we can help. 

We have great working relationships with other salon owners and are here to support you.  We have aided in set up and equipping new salons, home salons and we want to be there for all of your grooming career needs.
